Distracted Driving Campaign Launched

For the seventh year in a row, it is expected that distracted driving deaths will likely surpass deaths from impaired drivers in Ontario, and this echoes similar messages heard across Canada. In response to these staggering statistics, organizations across the country are launching initiatives to raise awareness and crack down on these dangerous drivers.

In British Columbia a month-long campaign was launched in February from the police, ICBC and B.C. government; Ontario and Atlantic Canada saw similar campaigns launched recently as well.

In an effort to help reduce collisions, here are some official tips that drivers need to be aware of:

  • Be mindful that distracted driving poses a significant threat to the well-being of your friends and family.
  • Start conversations about distracted driving with your family, your friends, your colleagues and shed the negative light on it that it deserves.
  • If you see someone driving in a dangerous manner while driving distracted, call 911 to report them.
  • Be self-disciplined every time you get behind the wheel; do not allow yourself to be distracted in any way while you are driving.

So for the sake of your well-being and the well-being of those around you, please make sure that you don’t pick up your devices and keep your eyes on the road.

Be sure to share these tips with your friends and family. You may save a life!
