Distracted Driving Concerns Increase

Distracted driving is gaining the attention of law enforcement and insurers across Canada. The evidence is mounting on how dangerous this behaviour is.

In Manitoba, the RCMP and Manitoba Public Insurance are teaming up to provide additional enforcement of the laws against distracted driving. In British Columbia, the RCMP have additional “eyes and ears” to help gather data on distracted driving. GIO’s Independent Director for B.C. and Yukon is a volunteer with Cowichan Community Policing and Crime Prevention. In this capacity she and other volunteers help to gather data that is shared with ICBC and the local detachment of the RCMP.  This data is included in ICBC’s “Cell Watch” program and becomes part of the information for articles such as the one linked below which identified distracted driving as the top cause of car crashes involving young drivers in B.C.
