March is Fraud Prevention Month in Canada.

Fraud is a concern in all areas of financial services, including insurance. One of the best things consumers can do to protect themselves, is to be aware of how fraud can affect them.

Here are two ways:

1) Watch the Livecast of the 2014 Fraud Prevention Month Launch (February 27, 6-9 p.m.)

To kick off Fraud Prevention Month 2014, the Financial Services Commission of Ontario, Toronto Police and various other organizations will be holding an educational event on fraud prevention at St. Malachy Catholic School in Scarborough. The event will be livecast, and members of the public are encouraged to follow the #DontBeScammed hashtag on Twitter for updates about the event.

2) Participate in #Fraudchat

Talk about fraud, scams and things you can do to protect yourself by joining #fraudchat, a weekly Twitter chat that takes place every Thursday night from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. eastern time. To join the conversation with your own personal questions or concerns, just follow the #fraudchat hashtag.
